Most networks today are installed using Category 5
UTP with
fibre optic backbones - why?
Installation costs are reasonable.
- Upgrading costs of a well designed system are limited.
- Resilience is excellent
- Future proofing is excellent, With Cat 5E a very high band width can be
run over UTP with even higher band width being achieved with a fibre
optic installation.
- It is vendor and access protocol independent. This means it can be
combined with existing cabling infrastructures. E.G. Thin ethernet (coaxial
cable).
